Iranian media reported on Monday that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is “in good health,” as confirmed by a member of the Supreme Leader’s office, denying rumors of a recent deterioration in his health.

“With the grace of God and the prayers of the lovers, the leader is doing well and is carrying out his plans according to the regular schedule,” Mahdi Fadili wrote on Twitter.

The message was carried by Iranian news agencies that introduced Fadili as a member of the 81-year-old Supreme Leader’s office.

Rumors spread about Khamenei’s deteriorating health following the posting on Saturday of an Arabic text message on Twitter confirming that the Supreme Leader transferred power to his son Mojtaba Khamenei after a sudden deterioration in his health.

A well-known American magazine carried the message without verifying its authenticity, which contributed to reinforce the rumors.

And on Monday, the Iranian agency Tasnim wrote that the circulating tweet was “misleading information” posted by an account “belonging to a London-based (Arabic-speaking) dissident.”

Khamenei last appeared in public on November 24. According to images published on Iranian television, Khamenei had met with the heads of the executive, legislative and judicial authorities, knowing that he usually takes this step two or three times a month, maximum.

On that occasion, Khamenei and his guests appeared wearing masks due to the severe outbreak of the emerging Corona virus in Iran.

In 2014, Khamenei underwent successful prostate surgery.

And in the Telegram application, Iranian television denied on Monday that the Assembly of Experts in charge of appointing or dismissing the Supreme Leader met during the day.

Television insisted on getting it right after social media posted an image resembling a screenshot from its news channel with a tape announcing the meeting. Television confirmed that this tape was “fake.”
