Today, Monday, an official close to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei denied rumors on social media about the 81-year-old Khamenei’s deteriorating health.

“Praise God, and thanks to the kind invitations from sincere people, Sayyid (Ayatollah Khamenei) is in good health and is very busy implementing his usual schedule of responsibilities,” Mahdi Fadaeli said in a tweet.

Fadili worked in an office that published Khamenei’s works. His tweet was also published by the semi-official Fars news agency.

And rumors spread about Khamenei’s deteriorating health following the posting of an Arabic text on Saturday on Twitter confirming that the Supreme Leader transferred power to his son Mojtaba Khamenei, following a sudden deterioration in his health. The US magazine “Newsweek” carried the message without verifying its authenticity. Which contributed to the strengthening of the rumors.

But Iran’s Tasnim news agency wrote Monday that the circulating tweet was “misleading” and that it published an account “belonging to a London-based (Arabic-speaking) dissident.

On the Telegram app, Iranian television on Monday denied that the Assembly of Experts tasked with appointing or removing the Supreme Leader met during the day.

Television insisted on correcting things after social media posted an image resembling a screenshot from their news channel with a tape announcing the meeting, and television confirmed that this tape was “fake.”

Khamenei has held the post of Supreme Leader of Iran since 1989 and has the final say on all matters of state.
