The Iranian Ambassador to Iraq, Iraj Masjedi, announced the formation of a special tribunal in both Iran and Iraq to investigate the assassination of the Quds Force commander, Qassem Soleimani, and the head of the People’s Mobilization Authority, Abu Mahdi al- Muhandis.
“International courts cannot be expected to take effective action in the Soleimani murder case,” the Fars news agency quoted him as saying.
He added: “The first suspects in this case are Trump and American leaders.”
‘Revenge is inevitable’
A leaflet contained statements by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in December saying that “revenge is inevitable,” reiterating his promise of revenge ahead of the first anniversary of the assassination of Qassem Soleimani in the attack on the Baghdad airport campus. .
Khamenei wrote on Twitter on December 16: “Those who ordered the assassination of General Soleimani, as well as those who carried it out, must be punished. This revenge will inevitably happen at the right time,” not to mention Trump, who ordered the attack.
The head of the Iranian judiciary promised to bring to justice those responsible for the murder of Soleimani, who was killed in a US airstrike in Iraq last year.
The head of the Iranian judiciary, Ibrahim Raisi, identified President Trump as the main figure behind the assassination and said he would be tried whether he was “president of the United States or not.”
Iran has issued an arrest warrant for Trump. Tehran prosecutor Ali Al-Qassi Mehr said that Trump and 35 others faced murder charges and charges related to “terrorism”, and that international police “Interpol” had been notified to assist in their arrest.
However, the International Police said they would not consider the Iranian request.
Soleimani was killed in a drone strike near the Baghdad airport in January 2020, on the orders of Trump, who said the Iranian military commander was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American soldiers and was planning imminent strikes.
