He noted that “the objective of these discussions is to achieve a comprehensive framework that can help Lebanon address difficult economic and social conditions at the present time and restore sustainability of conditions and growth. These discussions will continue in the coming days.”
The finance ministry’s media office previously said the government today launched formal negotiations with the International Monetary Fund to discuss the financial recovery plan that the government had implemented.
The office noted that “Finance Minister Ghazi Wazni handles these conversations that come after preliminary discussions he had on Monday (May 11, 2020) with representatives of the International Monetary Fund.”
He noted that “a team from the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Lebanon will participate in these talks, in the presence of representatives of the Office of the President of the Republic and the Office of the Prime Minister.”
The Ministry of Finance noted that “these conversations are organized through videoconference.”
“The Lebanese government and the International Monetary Fund have completed the first phase of the talks with the aim of reaching an agreement that will put the Lebanese economy on the right track,” said Finance Minister Ghazi Wazni.
He added: “We are satisfied with the atmosphere of these preliminary discussions, and we hope that the upcoming discussions will be equally constructive.”
