“Human Rights Watch”, Thursday, questioned the investigations that the Lebanese authorities are carrying out on the explosion that destroyed the port of Beirut, highlighting that no credible results have been achieved despite the passage of two months after the explosion.

The international body attributed the reason for this to political interference that was accompanied by an ingrained flaw in the judicial system, and stressed that these interventions “made it seem impossible to carry out a credible and impartial local investigation.”

In this context, and to prevent such interference and manipulation of the results, “Human Rights Watch” called for a “United Nations-led investigation into the causes of the explosion to determine responsibility,” and asked the Group of International Support for Lebanon, which will meet next week, to “pressure” Lebanese authorities to accept an independent investigation.

It should be noted that the explosion that occurred on August 4, due to the presence of tons of ammonium nitrate in the port, killed almost 200 people and injured more than 6,000, and destroyed many neighborhoods and thousands of residential, historical and residential buildings. health, and caused the displacement of more than 300 thousand citizens and they were left homeless.
