Hans Kluge, head of the WHO Regional Office for Europe (WHO), said that a new strain of Coronavirus has been found in 8 European countries and protective measures should be strengthened.
Kluge wrote on his Twitter account today Friday: “8 countries in the European region have identified a new type of strain” Covid 19 “(COVID-19 VOC-20 2012/01). It is necessary to strengthen the current protection measures ”.
He indicated that it is necessary to maintain distance, wear masks, as well as remain in the so-called “support bubbles” that allow him to form a circle of friends during the restrictive measures and avoid social isolation.
Cluj added that the new strain, unlike the old one, is more likely to spread among the younger age groups. He stressed that vigilance is required while the new variant of Covid is studied.
Earlier it was learned that a new SARS-CoV-2 mutation was discovered in the UK.
On Saturday, the British Advisory Board on New and Emerging Threats of Respiratory Viruses confirmed that the type of coronavirus identified in the country is spreading at a faster rate and requires more caution on the part of the population. Although the new variant of the virus, according to initial estimates, may be 70% more contagious than usual, there are still indications that it is more dangerous in terms of death or hospitalization.
