Former Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora said former heads of government had agreed to nominate Ambassador Mustafa Adib as a candidate to head the Lebanese government.

For its part, Reuters quoted a leading Shiite political source as confirming that the Hezbollah bloc and the Amal Movement will appoint Adeeb as prime minister in tomorrow’s parliamentary consultations.

Reuters added that the Future Movement, led by Saad Hariri, also plans to nominate Adeeb, who is Lebanon’s ambassador to Germany.

Former heads of government: Saad Hariri, Fouad Siniora, Najib Mikati and Tamam Salam, held a meeting to discuss the prime minister’s issue, and the Future Movement parliamentary bloc will meet tonight to discuss the name of its candidate.

Contacts and political meetings in Lebanon are intensifying to reach an agreement on the name of a candidate for the head of the government, provided that tomorrow he is assigned to the binding parliamentary consultations, to be carried out by President Michel Aoun.

The parliamentary blocs will participate in the binding consultations in the Republican Palace, starting at 9 am tomorrow, in order to choose a figure to form the government.

The Beirut port explosion, specifically within District No. 12, where 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate had been stored for over 6 years, prompted Hassan Diab’s government to resign on August 10.
