The General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces – Public Relations Division issued the following communication:
The Office for Combating Information Crimes and Protection of Intellectual Property of the Judicial Police Unit received a complaint filed by Mwatana about his youngest daughter against an unknown person for the crime of threat and extortion.
Hearing the prosecutor’s testimony, he claimed that a Syrian national (born 2003) tried to harass his daughter, while another Lebanese national (also born 2003) photographed them without the girl’s knowledge. Subsequently, the latter contacted her and deceived her by saying that the first person photographed her, and that she could obtain photos from her phone through a professional hacker she knew in exchange for a sum of money, and negotiating with the minor who accessed her blackmailed and paid him sums of money estimated at / $ 2000 / several times over.
As a result of extensive investigations and investigations carried out by the aforementioned office, its staff were able to locate the two suspects in Beirut and the southern suburbs.
Through tracking, they were arrested.
During the interrogation with them, the first of the Lebanese nationality admitted to having photographed the minor, and that he obtained from her several sums of money in exchange for accusing her of hacking the second’s phone and erasing the photos. The latter also admitted that he tried to harass her because they have a romantic relationship. He denied his connection to the blackmail issue.
The photos were deleted from the Lebanese’s phone, although it was not clear if there was a photograph of the minor on the second phone, and they were deposited with the competent authority based on the signal of the Judicial Power.
For this reason, the General Directorate of Internal Security asks citizens not to submit to the requests of extortionists under any pressure that may be exerted on them, and that they do not hesitate to report these cases immediately through their Facebook (lebsif), or through the (Report) service on its website.
