Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attacked his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, on Saturday night, in a context of tension between the two countries due to the escalating crisis in the eastern Mediterranean.
“Don’t mess with the Turkish people, don’t mess with Turkey,” Erdogan said in a televised speech in Istanbul, addressing his speech to Macron.
Macron has harshly criticized Ankara in its confrontation with Greece and Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean, in the context of exploring energy resources.
Erdogan added: “Mr. Macron, you will have more problems with me personally,” accusing him of saying that he “has no historical information and is ignorant of the history of France, so don’t worry about Turkey and its people.”

Erdogan also addressed his speech to Greece, saying: “You are doing wrong things, do not take these roads, otherwise you will face severe isolation.”
He explained that Greece goes to Turkey with its neighbor whenever it wants, asking it to give neighboring relations its right and not take wrong paths.
For his part, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar also said of Macron’s recent statements in which he criticized Turkey: “These statements are larger than their size and go beyond their borders, and are aimed at sowing discord between us. ”
He added: “However, you will not find deaf ears among our people.”
Turkish Vice President Fuad Oktay previously described French President Emmanuel Macron as a “representative of the colonial mindset.”
Oktay said: “Let Macron, as a representative of the colonial mentality, continue with his empty statements (against Erdogan), and we will continue under the leadership of President Erdoan as a helping hand that reaches out to the oppressed in the world, and we will continue to write history alongside our nation. “
And last Thursday, Turkey’s Foreign Ministry said: “Macron is attacking Turkey with a burning sensation, after we thwarted all his malicious plans and ruined his foreign policy games.”
And recently, French President Emmanuel Macron has been making statements against Turkey and accusations about the conflict between Ankara and Athens over the eastern Mediterranean.
In his remarks, Erdogan also addressed the failed coup attempt in Turkey, saying: “The coup has always been an indispensable tool for those who do not want to face the dire consequences of direct interventions in Turkey.”
He added: “There is no doubt that someone was waiting to say, ‘Our boys’ succeeded’ again on the night of July 15, 2016.”
He said: “Every coup or attempted coup that Turkey has experienced to date is neither legitimate nor dishonest.”
He did so in his speech on Saturday, during his participation in a ceremony to mark the anniversary of the military coup in Turkey on September 12, 1980, on the island of “democracy and freedoms” located in the Sea of Marmara.
