The Minister of Communications of the interim government, Talal Hawat, has completed the process of recovery of the management of the company “Mobile” Intrim Company 1, commercially known under the Alpha brand of “Orascom Telecom Lebanon”, to the Ministry of Communications, in compliance of the Cabinet Resolution issued on 5/5/2020 and once fulfilled. Orascom Company provides all the conditions of the Ministry in accordance with the terms of the management contract, especially article 31 thereof. As a result, the current board of directors headed by Marwan Hayek resigned and a new board of directors was elected, which was appointed by the Ministry of Communications headed by Jad Nassif and the membership of Rafiq Al-Haddad, Imad Hamed, Aline Karam and Muhammad Nasser.
Last week the procedures for the transfer of the management and operation of the company “Mobile Intrim Company 1 / MIC 1” to the Ministry of Communications were completed, highlighting that similar procedures dealing with the Mobile Intreme 2 / MIC2 Company are under follow-up. , as they will be completed in the second half of this September.
Hawat explained, once the handover ceremony was over, that “the recovery process was delayed due to the Corona crisis and the explosion that occurred in the port of Beirut last month.” She said: “The only agreement we made with Orascom is not to pay us administrative expenses. As a positive gesture of the company towards the Ministry and the Lebanese people, it decided to abandon the administrative allowances owed for the entire year 2020, estimated at 4 million and 800 thousand dollars in favor of the Ministry of Communications.
He pointed out that “he will keep up to date with the work of the new board of directors through daily meetings in order to ensure the success of the transitional period so as to guarantee the quality of the services provided and ensure the improvement of the income level. expected for 2020 “.
He concluded: “With the full return of the management of the Alfa Company to the Ministry of Communications, we have completed an important step that will be fully completed with the return of the management of Touch, which is expected very soon.”
In turn, “Orascom Telecom” announced that “it has completed the process of transferring the management of Mobile Antrim Company 1 (commercially known in Lebanon under the Alpha brand) from Orascom Telecom Lebanon to the Ministry of Communications, in implementation of the Resolution Cabinet issued on 5/5/2020 and after compliance with all the requirements of the management contract according to article 31 specifically. As a result, the current board of directors, made up of members outside of Alfa, resigned and a new board of directors appointed by the Ministry of Communications was elected.
It stated, in a statement, that “Orascom has once again demonstrated its commitment to all Lebanese sovereign decisions, as it has done since winning the management contract in February 2009, based on its constant desire to comply with all the terms of the management contract, the decisions of the Ministry of Communications and all pertinent laws “.
He noted that “the handover process that took place comes after a process that lasted more than 11 years in Lebanon, during which Orascom put all its experience and capabilities at the service of Alfa and its subscribers, and contributed directly to the rebirth and progress of the telecommunications sector in Lebanon and the occupation of advanced centers globally and reached position 20 in terms of speed.
