The decision of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon to convict Hezbollah leader Salim Ayyash received a Lebanese welcome and calls for the implementation of justice.
Today Friday, the Special Tribunal for Lebanon sentenced Salim Ayyash to life imprisonment, who was found guilty of participating in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in 2005 and resulted in 22 deaths and 226 injuries.
The most prominent reactions to the ruling came from Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri, who called on the Lebanese authorities to do their duty.
He wrote on his Twitter account, saying: “International justice has rendered its verdict in the case of martyred Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and his companions, and the punishment inflicted on Salim Ayyash must be implemented, and the Lebanese security and judicial authorities must do your duty in this regard. ”
Likewise, the position of Ibn Hariri, businessman Bahaa Hariri, through his Twitter account, where he wrote: “Following the issuance of the judgment of the international court on the crime of murder of the father of the martyr Rafik Hariri, we demand that the Lebanese state to stop the murderer Salim Ayyash in order to achieve justice and save the state more international isolation and accountability that does not Exclude anyone. ”
The ex-MP, Faris Saeed, only went to Hezbollah, saying, through his Twitter account: “To Hezbollah, after ruling Salim Ayyash … hidden.”
In turn, the former Minister of Justice, Ashraf Rifi, published a photo of Ayyash attached to a tweet on “Twitter”, quoting the noble verse of the Quran: “In retribution, you have life, oh people of heart, so that you are afraid “.
Today, the Special Tribunal for Lebanon handed down five life sentences for Hezbollah leader Salim Ayyash for the murder of Hariri.
After six years of trial, the court issued a verdict on August 18, in which Ayyash was “indisputably guilty” of the five charges brought against him, namely, “plotting a conspiracy to commit a terrorist act, commit a terrorist act with an explosive device and kill Hariri. ” Intentionally using explosive materials and deliberately killing 21 other people by using explosive materials and deliberately attempting to kill 226 people using explosive materials.
This is in exchange for the court acquitting three other defendants belonging to Hezbollah, who were tried in absentia because the Lebanese authorities were unable to arrest and hand them over to the court, and because the party refused to hand over any of its members to a court that considers “politicized” and refuses to recognize it.
