Diplomatic sources reported that the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, had chosen the Polish ambassador to the international organization, Ioana Vroneska, to assume the position of special coordinator of the organization in Lebanon.
A diplomatic source told “Agence France Presse” that “Guterres informed the Security Council of his intention to appoint Fronisca, the United Nations special coordinator in Lebanon, and the Security Council approved this option.”
Other diplomats confirmed this information, noting that the members of the Security Council did not oppose this appointment, and gave their approval to Guterres at the end of last week.
The diplomats added that the formal announcement of Fronisca’s appointment to his new position will soon be announced.
Francesca, born March 30, 1958, will succeed Jan Kubi تش, a Slovak, who recently assumed his new duties as UN envoy to Libya.
The Polish diplomat is fluent in Arabic, French and English, having studied in Algeria, Egypt and France.
During her career, she held various positions as ambassador of her country in Egypt (1999-2003) and Morocco, where she dealt with the affairs of Mauritania and Senegal (2005-2010), as well as ambassador of the European Union in Jordan (2011 to 2015).
Since 2017, Froniska has moved to New York, where she served as the permanent representative of Poland to the United Nations.
During his assumption of this mission, the United Nations General Assembly ordered him to relaunch intergovernmental negotiations to reform the UN Security Council, with the aim of expanding it to include new members, representing the world today more broadly.
The Polish ambassador shared this mission with her Qatari counterpart, Alia bint Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani.
