I postpone indefinitely the announcement that was scheduled for next November 10 for the winner of the “Goncourt”, the most important French literary prize, “in solidarity” with the libraries that were forced to close again due to the closure measures imposed in France before the second wave of Corona Pandemic.

The general curator of the “Goncourt” Academy, Francoise Rossino, explained in a brief message to the “Agence France Presse” that the prize will be awarded “on an unspecified date, since the libraries will not be open on November 10” . It is not possible for members of the academy to present the award “in light of this closure, as” other sales platforms “will benefit, he said. He added that the members of the “Goncourt” Academy wanted, through this decision, “to express their solidarity with the libraries.”
In a related context, the organizers of the Interalier Award announced that they had made a similar decision. A jury spokesperson told AFP that “on November 12 we will announce the list of finalists, but the award will not be awarded while the libraries are closed.”
For her part, the French Minister of Culture, Roselyn Bachelot, confirmed, yesterday afternoon, Thursday, that libraries will not be exempt from the measures taken to contain the spread of the epidemic: “They are not currently within stores open, but can, like record stores, organize order deliveries. And he continued: “We will study within 15 days if it can open its doors in light of the health situation.”
