Today, a senior government official revealed to the newspaper “Daily Star” that the Banque du Liban refused to provide the international auditor “Alvarez” and “Marsal” with all the documents and information required under the pretext of bank secrecy and money law. and credit.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, indicated that “Álvarez” has formally requested the Banque du Liban to deliver some 100 documents so that it can carry out its initial investigation to determine whether there are indeed suspicious accounting irregularities. The audit firm was very unhappy with the BDL’s reaction and will study the possibility of terminating the government contract to carry out the first forensic audit of the Central Bank’s accounts.

The official emphasized that the House of Representatives needs to amend some provisions of the Bank Secrecy Act to determine what information can be disclosed. He added that these amendments will facilitate the work of the central bank.

The official explained that the company will be able to terminate its contract in early November 2020 and will receive around $ 200,000 for the work it has done since the government contract was signed.

It did not disclose the type of information the company requested from the Banque du Liban, adding that these matters only concern both parties.
