Medical efforts continue to work on the effectiveness of Corona vaccines, and positive news continues in this regard, as US drug maker Moderna announced Thursday that vaccination can provide protection against infection for two years.
The company said that the prevention rate provided by the vaccine is 94.5%.
The vaccine Moderna developed is an “RNA (or RNA) vaccine” and works by injecting part of the virus’ genetic code into the body.
Stimulate the immune system.
The vaccine then begins to produce viral proteins, not the entire virus, which is considered sufficient to stimulate the immune system and prepare it to deal with infection.
The vaccine is supposed to accustom the body to producing antibodies and T cells with which it fights the Corona virus.
In the context, the European Commission agreed, Wednesday, to launch and use a vaccine to prevent Covid-19 developed by the American company Moderna, in the last step in the European approval process for this procedure.
“With the approval of the Moderna vaccine, the second authorized in the European Union, we will have 160 million additional doses and more vaccines will come,” said Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, in a statement.
Mass vaccination campaigns
On December 27, European Union countries began vaccination campaigns and are trying to catch up with other countries, such as the United States and Israel, as large numbers have already been vaccinated there.
The European Medicines Agency approved the vaccine today as authorities accelerate the pace of immunization efforts amid fears that two new strains of the emerging corona virus, the most contagious, have begun to spread.
The start of large-scale vaccination campaigns in the countries of the European Union, home to some 450 million people, would be a turning point on the road to eliminating the pandemic that has so far claimed the lives of around one million 900 thousand patients in the world.
Over 18 years
The European Medicines Agency said it granted approval for the use of Moderna vaccine in people over 18 years of age, after evaluating data on quality, safety and efficacy.
It is noteworthy that the new Corona virus has infected more than 86.63 million people worldwide, while the total number of deaths from the virus has reached one million and 873667 deaths.
HIV infections have been recorded in more than 210 countries and regions since the first cases were discovered in China in December 2019.
