The counting of votes in the US presidential elections, in the state of Georgia, revealed that 2,600 votes were not counted, forming a new pressure letter for the Republican Party and President Donald Trump, which alleged the existence of fraud in the elections.
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Ravensberger announced days ago that the state will recount voters’ votes in presidential elections completely and manually.
A vote count in Floyd County, Georgia, showed that 2,600 votes had not been counted, including 800 votes for Trump, according to the American Fox News website.
Floyd County Republican Party chief Luke Martin described the incident as “concerning” but insisted that it “does not appear to be a widespread problem.”
For his part, Ravensberger blamed the officials in charge of the voting process in Floyd County, noting that they “forgot to take those votes from a memory chip to the ballot scanner machine.”
Despite the discovered votes, they are still insufficient to close the 14,000-vote gap between Trump and President-elect Joe Biden.
Ravensberger explained that the other provinces so far have not found votes that were not counted, noting that the counting numbers closely match the original numbers.
In the event that Biden was victorious in the recount in Georgia, he will have resolved 16 electoral votes.
The deadline for counting in the 159 state counties is Wednesday, November 18 at midnight.
Trump refuses to concede his defeat to Democrat Biden, instead filing several lawsuits in crucial states to try to back up his baseless allegations of widespread voting fraud.
