This week, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanan will visit Tunisia to discuss the fight against terrorism.
This visit comes at the request of President Emmanuel Macron, following the attack that occurred on Thursday in Nice, southern France, and the perpetrator is suspected to be a 21-year-old Tunisian.
The Elysee Palace announced that “the president asked the interior minister to go to Tunis (this week) to meet with his counterpart.”
The decision was announced after a phone call that took place on Saturday between Macron and Tunisian President Qais Saeed, who “expressed his solidarity with France after the terrorist acts,” according to the French presidency.
The Elysee clarified that the two presidents “agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fight against terrorism”, adding that “they discussed the delicate issue related to the return of Tunisians who are forced to leave French territory, and in front of those who are on the security list “of the intelligence services.
The Tunisian presidency announced on Saturday night that Macron and Saeed discussed “the issue of irregular migration and the solutions that must be reached together to address this phenomenon, which is exacerbated from time to time to achieve political goals.”
