He referred to US efforts to extend the arms embargo on his country, accusing Washington of turning the region into a “powder keg due to the sale of hundreds of billions of dollars in arms,” ​​saying it did not However “it seeks to deprive Iran of its lower defense needs and to extend the arms embargo, in violation of the text of Resolution 2231.” .
The Iranian president thanked the 13 members of the Security Council and the presidents of the Council during the months of August and September, for their opposition to the use by Washington to activate the mechanism of “conflict resolution” to restore sanctions of the UN against Iran, considering that “a victory for Iran and for the transition phase of the international system towards a post-Western world.” And highlighting that the United States “lives today isolated from its own creation.”
Regarding the nuclear deal, Rouhani said: “In 2015 we achieved the nuclear deal as one of the greatest achievements of diplomacy in its history, and despite continued US violations, we remain committed to it.”

Macron criticizes Washington
For his part, Macron told the United Nations that France, Germany and Britain will not “renounce” their refusal to support the reintroduction of UN sanctions on Iran after the United States took the initiative to do so.
In a recorded speech to the General Assembly, the French president said that “France, together with its partners Germany and Great Britain, will continue to demand the full implementation of the 2015 Vienna Agreement” on the Iranian nuclear program. He added, as reported by Agence France-Presse: “We will not accept the violations committed by Iran”, but corrected: “However, we will not commit to activating a mechanism that the United States is not in a position to activate on its own after its departure. of the agreement “.
The French president also declared that “the world in its current situation cannot be reduced to the rivalry between China and the United States,” and called on the international community to “build new alliances.” In this regard, he said, “We are not collectively condemned (…) to somehow be mere witnesses of a collective impotence.”

Macron’s speech came a few hours after US President Donald Trump launched a new attack on China, sparking fears of a “new cold war” between the two powers.
“The world, in its current situation, cannot be reduced to the rivalry between China and the United States, whatever the global weight of these two great powers, whatever the history that unites us, especially the United States of America” said the French president.
He added that in the face of Beijing and Washington, “we have room for maneuver that we must use, and we know how to define our priorities in this environment, present our options clearly and build new alliances.”
Macron asked Europe in particular to “take full responsibility” and “not fall”.
