US President-elect Joe Biden announced Sunday the formation of his all-female contact team at the White House, which his office described as the first such team in the country’s history.
Among the chosen personalities, Jane Saki will be the spokeswoman for the White House, a prominent position.
Saki (41) held many high-level positions, including the position of communications director in the White House under former President Barack Obama.
Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris seek to showcase the diversity of the appointments and nominations announced so far, before being sworn in on January 20.
“I am proud to present the first White House communications team made up of women today,” Biden said in a statement.
He added that these “qualified experts” in the field of communication provide “diverse perspectives for their work” and share the same commitment to “better rebuild these countries.”
In addition to Saki, the names of 6 other personalities have been announced, including Kate Biddingfield, who was Biden’s deputy campaign manager and will serve as communications director at the White House.
As for Ashley Etienne, Vice President Kamala Harris will serve as Communications Director and Simon Sanders will serve as Harris’ senior advisor and spokesperson.
For his part, Billy Tobard will be the deputy director of communications for the White House and Karen Jean-Pierre will be the deputy spokesperson for the White House.
Elizabeth Alexander has been appointed director of communications for incoming first lady Jill Biden.
Unlike ministerial positions, these appointments do not require Senate approval.
