No one imagined that the fall day would end on September 11, 2001, this tragic end, when nearly 3,000 people were killed in the deadliest terrorist attacks in American history. The attacks lasted about an hour and a half and used hijacked civilian planes launched from three different airports.

That day, 19 Al-Qaeda hijackers attacked major buildings in New York and Washington, including the two main towers of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Another attack took place in the Pennsylvania sky, where a plane crashed, believed to be heading to Washington to launch an attack on the Capitol building or the White House. The collapse process lasted only 10 seconds, during which more than 800 workers and paramedics were inside the building, some outside it.

At 10:28 a.m., the north tower collapsed, when another hijacked plane collided with it at 8:46 a.m., killing more than 1,600 people.

Minutes before the collapse of the south tower, the Pentagon building was subjected to a similar attack, and another plane destined for an attack crashed in Washington, near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, five minutes after the collapse of the south tower.

19 years after the attacks, which changed the shape of the world, here are some facts about 9/11 that many may ignore:

In 102 minutes, 2,977 people were killed in attacks in New York City, Washington and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, including 343 firefighters, 23 police officers and 37 members of New York’s port authorities.

The ages of the victims ranged from 2 to 85 years old, and about 80 percent of the victims were male.

– The president of the United States, George W. Bush, was not in Washington when the attacks occurred, he was visiting a school in Sarasota, Florida, when one of his aides interrupted him and told him that the country was under a terrorist attack.

During the attack on the World Trade Center, a dog named Rosselli rescued his blind owner after taking him out of the building minutes before his collapse.

– Only 18 people survived the collapse of the two World Trade Center buildings, as they were located in the underground part.

The collapse of the two buildings left around 1.8 million tons of rubble. And it took 3.1 million man hours to eliminate it.

It took 99 days to extinguish the fires caused by the collapse of the towers.

– 144 wedding rings were found in the accident.

– $ 100 million worth of art was destroyed as a result of the collapse of the two towers.

All the passengers, crew and hijackers of the plane that crashed near a field outside Shanksville were killed. The plane was estimated to be flying at 500 mph when it hit the ground.

The passengers on this plane are believed to have participated in a last-minute act of democracy before the plane crashed, voting to decide whether to rush into the cabin and fight with the hijackers to gain control of the plane. In fact, the audio records found after the accident indicate that one of the people gathered the passengers and asked them to initiate the attack on the hijackers.

The National Reconnaissance Office, affiliated with the United States Department of Defense, was planning a training exercise at 9 a.m. New York time on September 11. The exercise was about what to do if a plane crashes into a building in Washington.

It took five years to build the towers, while the collapse process took 102 minutes.

– The authorities decided not to leave the site of the two towers empty, since the World Trade Center 1 was inaugurated, which is a skyscraper with a height of 1776 feet, and next to it a memorial and a museum were established.

The water ponds, which are part of the memorial site, are distinguished by the largest man-made waterfalls in North America.
