Europe divided on Sputnik V

Europe is divided

At a time when Germany calls for cooperation with Moscow on the Russian “Sputnik V” vaccine against Corona, Paris is strongly opposed to this, amid a split in the European Union over the aforementioned vaccine.

The French newspaper “Le Monde” has published today an article in which it states that the European Medicines Agency has not yet authorized the use of “Sputnik V” and no negotiations have started with the Russian side on the purchase of this vaccine, unlike what it did with the producers of some other vaccines.

The article indicated that things can move quickly if necessary, as there are several countries, led by Germany, that are interested in buying the Russian vaccine, in addition to Al-Nesma’s interest in producing it on their land.

On the other hand, some European politicians, including French Chancellor Jean-Yves Le Drian, object to the idea of vaccinating the population with the Russian vaccine.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced that Germany could start buying “Sputnik V” independently if the European Union refuses to go to Moscow with a joint request to supply the vaccine to member states.

And the media expected the Russian vaccine to be licensed by the European Medicines Agency in May.
