Today, Thursday, the Estonian government imposed sanctions on the Lebanese organization Hezbollah for its terrorist activities, describing it as a “major threat to international security.”
A statement posted on the Estonian Foreign Ministry’s “Twitter” account read: “At the proposal of the Foreign Minister, the government decided to impose sanctions on Lebanese Hezbollah for its terrorist activities.”
Estonia’s decision imposes an entry ban on members of the Lebanese Hezbollah, who belong to its military and political wings, and imposes sanctions on certain leaders of the organization who will be appointed during the next period, according to the statement.
And the statement continued, “Hezbollah poses a great threat to international security and therefore to the security of Estonia”, and Foreign Minister Urmas Rensalo was quoted as saying that “this step expressly supports other steps of the United States of America, Great Britain, Germany and other countries. “
The United States and 3 European countries ban Hezbollah, namely the Netherlands, Great Britain and Germany, while Switzerland is considering taking a similar step.
And Lithuania decided earlier, to prevent the Lebanese militia from entering its territory, as part of the procedures to classify it as a terrorist.
As for the European Union, since July 2013, it has been separating the political and military branches of the party, since it only classifies the latter as a terrorist and prohibits it, for preserving the communication channels with the government of Lebanon, of which the party is part.
