Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accepts the resignation of Finance Minister Berat Albayrak a day after he presented it for reasons he described as “healthy.”
The Turkish presidency announced that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accepted the resignation request of his son-in-law and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak, who submitted his resignation on Sunday via social media.
Albayrak wrote yesterday through his official account on “Instagram”, saying: “I am resigning from my position due to my health, and I prefer to dedicate my time to my family.”
Erdogan’s son-in-law assumed the portfolio of the Ministry of Finance and Treasury in 2018, and previously held the position of Minister of Water Resources and Energy between 2015 and 2018.
With the fall in the value of the Turkish currency and the increasing economic burden on Ankara, the Turkish President on Saturday removed the Governor of the Central Bank, Murad Uysal, from his post, and appointed the head of the Department of Strategy and Budget of the Presidency, Naji Iqbal.
The Turkish president and his son-in-law were subjected to harsh criticism from their opponents, as the leader of the Republican People’s Party, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, described the resignation of the finance minister through an unprecedented statement on the website “Instagram” , adding that “it is equivalent to a crisis of state”.
As for the leader of the Turkish opposition party “Future”, Ahmet Davutoglu, he said that the way Albayrak announced his resignation from office would return Turkey to the “tribal system”, calling for a change in the existing political system and “adoption of a strong parliamentary system. ”
