Gone, leaving thousands of songs and the prettiest soundtracks
Ilias Rahbani was never fair. The great musician passed away without many knowing that the most famous and repetitive songs are from his music, and perhaps from his words, and that the most famous publicity songs that young people memorized are the fruit of their imagination, as well as the songs from movies to those who attended and never forgot.
Did the man obscure his many talents, among which he changed lightly and simply? Was his arrangement as the younger brother of the two brothers Asi and Mansour the reason? Or that his joyous spirit made the masses of people not fully appreciate his genius?
Ilyas Rahbani passed away yesterday Monday at the age of 83. Sixty years remained in an intense and dazzling artistic bet. And it lasted until a few years ago, looking at the height of its donation, as if age couldn’t get it. He repeatedly insisted that he didn’t know who could write music with his speed and comfort, and that he was in a constant state of creation that didn’t stop, and this was something that was out of his control. He wrote thousands of compositions and composed songs in Arabic, English, French, Italian, and even Spanish. Humble, and maybe that’s what hurt him sometimes. When he was sixteen, he began writing his pieces. And at the age of nineteen, he was creating music and songs for the most popular television commercials. It can be said that he invented a new method in this field. At that young age, the BBC agreed with him to compose 40 songs and various musician programs.
Elias Rahbani was born in Antelias, north of Beirut, his father died when he was five years old, and his brothers Assi and Mansour Rahbani became engaged to him, who became like their parents. After the National Conservatory, his brothers taught him music for 12 years with two French teachers. Elías grew up, and the path of the two older brothers had begun, and he traced a difficult path, and he knew how to trace an exceptional path parallel to and independently of them, whether in the quality of their music, the lyrics of their songs and the nature of his works, or in his kind personality close to the heart, his cheerful spirit and the ever-present joke on his tongue.
At first, he began to collaborate with renowned singers. His first song was “Ma Ahlaha”, performed by the talented Nasri Shams El-Din, and after that, he recited the Subha. In 1962, Elias began working as a director and music consultant at Radio Lebanon, and met his beloved Nina Khalil, who would become his wife, and they would have children Ghassan and Jad who, in turn, would play a role in the world of music. art.
Elias Rahbani talks about more than 90 Arab and foreign artists who performed his songs. In fact, he stood out for putting western songs, as well as oriental, with the same skill, in addition to mixing the two genres, with skill and intelligence. Of course, Fayrouz is the most famous of his songs. Among his most famous songs are “Birds of Warwar”, “Layl and Awadouh Mansiyyah”, “Ya Qamar Al Helwyn”, “Between Me and You” and “They Killed Me, Our Black Eyes”. It also has some of the best known songs, “Ya rogue on the mills”, “Hanna Al-Sakran”, “Yay, Ya, Ya Nasini”. He excelled at classic, romantic, and popular songs mixed with irony, and wrote a lot for kids, for mom and dad, and for the rain.
A whole generation grew up with their heart-refreshing and joyful songs like “My Uncle Bou Masoud” – “Your Eid, Mama”, “Congratulations, Baba”, “We Have Cars” and “Dhao Reched Out of the Valley , “The Valley Came Out”.
The spirit of joy accompanied him wherever he went, and with it he mixed songs for him, those who forget “Ya Bou Mari” and “Forget all my appointments”, as well as the famous “Morey Mori”, with which Sami Clark toured the theaters of the world.
The question is who did not sing to Elias Rahbani? Almost all the adults, Majida Al Roumi, Sabah, Wadih Al Safi, Julia Boutros and Melhem Barakat. He is also a lover of beautiful emerging voices and has a credit to many of the young singers. He was not so concerned with giving the songs as with the beauty of the performance. He is the owner of the song “I Want to Live”, the lyrics, melody and layout of which were sung by Haifa Wehbe, after he trained her and perfected her voice to produce the song as he desired.
Elias Rahbani, a high-profile artistic leader, left behind a renaissance, the value of which the Lebanese still do not know, and must discover that the man is bigger than they thought, while they watched him make jokes with a childlike spirit, in the jury of programs artistic. You will realize that this giant talent that exuded creativity, did not enjoy what surrounds artists today in the age of promotion out of nowhere.
He is truly one of the most outstanding Arab musicians. Composer, arranger, composer, poet, director, and talent scout. He also produced and authored several plays, including: “Wadi Shamsin”, “Sufrat Al Ahlam” and “Ella”. In addition to thousands of melodies and instrumentals, he wrote the most beautiful Arabic graphic music. Who does not remember the music of the famous Egyptian movie “My Blood, My Tears, and My Smile”, the music of “My Love”, the series “The Most Beautiful Days of My Life”, “The Night Player” and ” Don’t Say Goodbye “. This is in addition to his pure classics, which he used to write and put aside, considering that nobody cared, in the time that we are. Undoubtedly, her two sons today, the artists Ghassan and Jad, are among the treasures that have not yet been published, who can rejoice the hearts of many, following their sad death with the dreaded Crown disease, just as it it was in his life.
