Data from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reveals that Russia has killed more civilians in Syria than ISIS has.
In 63 months of the Russian intervention in Syria, airstrikes carried out by 8,661 civilians, including 2,098 children under the age of 18, 1,317 women and 5,246 men were killed.
On the other hand, those killed by the Russian planes were from the ISIS terrorist organization during the same period, 5638 fighters and 6210 people belonged to the fighting factions of Arab and foreign nationalities and to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham.
In 2020, Russia carried out more than 8,000 air and missile strikes, killing 235 Syrian civilians, including 58 children and 41 women.
The Observatory says that Russia used the substance “termite” during its attacks in cluster bombs that weigh about half a ton, and this material consists of aluminum powder and iron oxide and continues to ignite when it comes into contact with human skin.
And the range of each Russian bomb was reduced to about 20-30 meters, which is the range of its deadly fragments.
The observatory notes that the Bashar al-Assad regime, with the support of Russian air strikes, was able to expand the areas it controls in the country, which came at the expense of “the blood of the Syrians, their displacement and the destruction of their properties “.
Russia intervened in Syria in September 2015 with an aerial bombing campaign, which contributed to the superiority of the Damascus regime in the equation on the ground.
Thousands of Russian soldiers are deployed in Syria in support of the regime forces.
The Russian military intervention contributed to the survival of Bashar al-Assad at the head of the regime and to the start of a major operation to regain territory controlled by armed factions in the early stages of the conflict.
