The Committee to Protect Journalists called on the Iranian authorities to release journalist Reza Taleshian Guludarzadeh and to stop arresting journalists.

On January 20, Zadeh, editor-in-chief of Tehran-based magazine Noor Azadi, wrote on his Instagram account that he had been arrested by Iranian authorities and would be transferred to “Tehran Grand” prison.

Zada posted a photo of her bandaged feet. The Committee to Protect Journalists was unable to locate him at the time of his arrest.

According to the exile-run human rights activist news agency (Hrana) and Amsterdam-based radio Zamaa Farsi, Gellodarzadeh was arrested and was serving a three-year prison sentence dating back to June 2019 for “disturb public opinion” and “spread propaganda against the system” on Instagram and Telegram.

According to Hrana, Zadeh was not imprisoned immediately after the sentence, which also included a two-year ban on political, social and journalistic activities.

“The Iranian authorities must release Reza Taleshian Guludarzadeh immediately, unconditionally,” said Sherif Mansour, coordinator of the Middle East and North Africa program at the Committee to Protect Journalists.

At the end of last month, Iranian security forces arrested Mahmoud Mahmoudi, editor-in-chief of the Egrin Rog Weekly newspaper, which deals with Kurdish affairs, from his home in Sanandaj, the capital of the Kurdistan region in western Kurdistan. Iran, and they moved him to an undisclosed location.

Hrana said Mahmoudi was accused of communicating with channels opposed to the regime. After his arrest, he was not allowed to contact his family or obtain legal representation, according to human rights reports.

Hrana and the IranWire news agency reported from exile that Mahmoudi was released on bail on February 4.

“Iran’s continued imprisonment of journalists on vague charges is a scandalous form of censorship that must end,” said Sherif Mansour, coordinator of the Middle East and North Africa program at the Committee to Protect Journalists.
