The Supreme Judicial Council yesterday held a meeting headed by its president, Judge Suhail Abboud, to discuss the decision of the Criminal Court of Cassation, which decided to disqualify the judicial investigator, Judge Fadi Sawan, from the Beirut port explosion file, and choose an alternative judge to assume this task in agreement with the Minister of Justice in the interim government, Marie Claude Najm, who will propose the nominee for this case. The council decided to keep its sessions open until the decision was made to select the new judicial investigator and receive the file. Sawan had informed him yesterday upon his arrival at his office that the Criminal Court of Cassation decided to prevent him from hearing the case of the port explosion, after the Prosecutor, Judge Ghassan El-Khoury, referred the decision to Minister Najm and Judge Sawan . In the same context, several relatives of the victims of the port explosion blocked a series of roads in Beirut, taking photos of their children, as part of a series of movements that they promised to implement, rejecting the decision to transfer the investigation. from judge Fadi Sawan to another judge and condemning the delay and dilution in the investigation file.
In addition, the head of the “Lebanese Forces” party, Samir Geagea, asked President Aoun and Acting Prime Minister Hassan Diab to send an immediate request to the Secretary-General of the United Nations to form an international report.
