The Angels- Anthony Davis and LeBron James scored 60 points to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 114-108 victory over the Denver Nuggets, with the team one win from reaching the NBA Finals. The Lakers lead 3-1 in the best game series of seven. And despite the Lakers’ crushing record with a 3-1 lead in any series, having lost just once 37 times before, they will have to watch out for the Nuggets, especially this season.
The Nuggets became the first team in tournament history to recover from falling behind 3-1 twice in the same season when they beat the Utah Jazz and the Los Angeles Clippers in the previous two rounds. The Lakers finished the first quarter 37-30 before expanding the lead to 12 points midway through the second quarter. But the Nuggets managed to reduce the score to 60-55 at the end of the first half, as the Lakers benefited from Davis scoring 19 points this half.
The Lakers increased their lead to ten points early in the third quarter and held their lead until the Nuggets scored six straight points, then Michael Porto Jr. hit a 3-pointer to reach the scoreline 87-84 before the start of the fourth quarter. Monty Harris cut the lead to one point and scored with Jamal Murray 12 straight points to make it 99-96 six minutes before the end.
With Nikola Jukic committing five personal errors, the Nuggets relied on Murray to lead the attack, and on the other hand James decided to dedicate himself to observing the Nuggets player. James tightened his grip on Murray and the Nuggets shifted their focus to Harris, who scored 12 points in the game, again.
Paul Millsap cut the score to 112-108 27 seconds before the end, but Davis scored twice and took a rebound as the Lakers posted their third series win. Davis was the Lakers with 34 points, and James was behind him with 26 points. Murray topped the Nuggets’ scoring list with 32 points, then Jeremy Grant, who scored 17 points, while Jukic only scored 16 points.
