The Czech Health Ministry said Friday that it has asked Germany, Switzerland and Poland to receive dozens of Corona patients, as the situation in their hospitals has reached a “critical stage”.
The country, with a population of 10.7 million and which has become one of the countries most affected by the disease in recent weeks, with the influx of patients to hospitals exceeding their capacity, was forced to transfer patients to other places and moving some cases hundreds of miles.
“The large number of recently injured patients has put pressure on the health care system and the number of patients needing hospital care is increasing,” the ministry said.
Data from the Health Ministry showed that as of Friday morning, 8,153 Covid-19 patients had entered hospitals and 1,735 of them were in need of intensive care.
“Hospitals have exhausted their capacity in some areas and can no longer provide adequate care or receive new patients without the help of others,” Health Minister Jan Platney said in a press release.
Thirteen percent of capacity in intensive care units was available nationwide, while in the capital Prague, five percent.
