Crown pandemic: a ton of chicken droppings is sprayed in parks to prevent Swedes from celebrating

Lund, Sweden, will dump rubbish in its parks, to discourage residents from celebrating the traditional Spring Festival in an effort to combat the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic, according to authorities.

The municipality, which also plans to raise barriers around the city’s main park, has asked residents to abandon this traditional “Valborges Night”, held on April 30, a very popular celebration in Sweden symbolizing the end of the winter season. During these celebrations, Swedes sing and burn stoves in parks and gardens.

City officials told AFP that city authorities would go further, with a ton of chicken droppings deployed in the main park, accomplishing two goals: the first was to maintain the gardens and the second was to eliminate people who could treat of violating the restrictions imposed by the epidemic.

“Chicken droppings have a very unpleasant odor, and it is not fun to sit in the midst of that odor,” Gustav Lundblad, who deals with environmental affairs in the municipality, told AFP.

These celebrations, which can attract 30,000 people, are “spontaneous”. Lund is one of the largest university cities in Sweden and the majority of its 125,000 residents are students.
