Fauchi told CNN on Friday in response to a question about it, “Well, if people don’t wear masks, then maybe they should prevail.”
Before, Fauci was not encouraged by the idea of imposing masks, saying in mid-September: “Perhaps the national mandate will not succeed” with the use of masks.
The United States is experiencing an upward trend in the number of Corona cases. Only on Friday, a record number never seen before in the country, exceeding 82,000 cases.
During this week, 31 states saw an increase in the number of epidemics, at a rate of 10 percent, compared to last week, while conditions were stable in 18 states, according to CNN.
Fauchi said that “imposing masks can be difficult, but it may be time to demand it.”
“It will be difficult to enforce it, but if everyone agrees that this is something important, we will enforce it. I think it would be a great idea to get everyone to do it uniformly,” he added.
And America’s health experts had warned of a catastrophic winter and fall, expecting the death toll from disease to rise by about 80 percent by next February.
Dr. Peter Hotez, a Tropical Medicine specialist at Baylor School of Medicine, told CNN: “This is an ominous sign. I think we are in a very bad fall and winter.”
“I am very concerned for the nation. This is one of our worst periods in modern American public health.”
With the onset of winters, Dr. Fauchi said, people need to “duplicate” successful procedures. He considered the “generalization of wearing masks” to be one of these things, as well as staying away from others and washing hands frequently.
Experts caution that the increase in cases in the United States cannot be attributed to the increase in the number of tests alone.
Fauci said the anti-Corona measures “seem very simple. But we are not doing it uniformly and that is one of the reasons we are witnessing these surges.”
