The Director General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned on Sunday (December 27, 2020) that the COVID-19 pandemic will not be the last crisis of its kind facing the world.

“History tells us that this will not be the last pandemic and that epidemics are a reality,” Tedros said in a video recording released on the occasion of the first World Epidemic Preparedness Day on Sunday. He said that working better on investment in public health with the support of governments and society can guarantee “a legacy for our children.” Their children are in a safer, more resilient and sustainable world ”.

Tedros said the new Corona virus has turned the world “upside down” for the past twelve months and has had consequences with far-reaching impact on societies and economies. However, he added, “the epidemic itself was not a surprise, especially in light of the warnings of this possibility, and the world’s lack of preparation for it, we must all be aware of the lessons the pandemic has taught us. “. This includes investing in pre-prepared capabilities not only in the health sector but also in having a “holistic approach to government and society.”

“The pandemic has highlighted the close links between human, animal and planet health,” said the WHO chief, which requires a joint approach.
