Advisor to the Lebanese President:

The recommendation to close comes with expectations that the number of injured will continue to rise over the next week as the country witnessed “chaos during the holidays,” reported Parliamentary Health Committee member Bilal Abdullah, who explained in an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat, that the high numbers that we see now are As a result of the mixing that occurred during the Christmas period, as for the results of the New Years night, we are expected to see it after a week or 10 days .

Corona’s daily counter surpassed 3,500 two days ago, posting an all-time high, amid expectations that it will surpass 5,000 next week. Yesterday, several hospitals and laboratories witnessed a large crowd, as the Lebanese rushed to carry out “BCR” tests after the New Year’s Eve celebrations. Abdullah pointed out that the first objective of the closure is “to slow the spread of the epidemic and thus reduce the pressure on hospitals, since every 100 injured means that 20 of them enter the hospital and 5 of them enter intensive care.”

He warned about the current January and next February, considering that they will be critical months in terms of the high number of infections and deaths from the virus.

The Parliamentary Health Commission had indicated that the occupancy rate in hospitals had risen to 95% and continues to rise steadily.

The head of the Doctors’ Union, Sharaf Abu Sharaf, warned that “the recklessness of the citizens can lead Lebanon to the Italian scene”, considering that “the responsibility of the citizen is equal to the responsibility of the State, and that the Ministry of the Interior does not can impose measures by force. “

The total number of injured in Lebanon exceeded 183,800, while the death toll exceeded 1,400 and the number of injured in the health sector approached 2,000.

It is expected that the Ministerial Committee, which will meet on Monday, will recommend a 3-4 week closure with a full curfew, with the exception of pharmacies and food places, and then a partial closure depending on the areas with low discharge, in addition to reduce the number of aircraft and arrivals at the airport and reimpose the “BCR” test at the airport for all arrivals with mandatory quarantine, provided the Supreme Defense Council makes the final decision. “

The Minister of Education and Higher Education of the interim government, Tariq Al-Majzoub, anticipated the closure decision and announced the suspension of public education and the adoption of distance education to preserve the health of students and teachers, pending the decision to be issued by the Supreme Defense Council early next week, noting that the complete shutdown will not exclude schools.
