Corona hits UNIFIL: 90 wounded among soldiers in Naqoura

Today Sunday September 13, the spokesperson for the peacekeeping forces operating in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL) Andrea Tenenti announced that 90 peacekeepers have been infected with the new Corona virus: 88 of them are from the same unit , and two from another country contributing to the forces, and are in complete isolation was followed and precautionary measures were followed to prevent the spread of the virus.

All the injured are subjected to complete isolation, in accordance with approved medical procedures. The injured were transported to a designated area of ​​the UNIFIL scope of work. It is equipped for the wounded. The unit firmly tracked the contacts and implemented a comprehensive testing and isolation system.

All four soldiers showed some symptoms at first. And after conducting the tests, the result was: 90 soldiers were injured. Thanks to the strict contact tracing measures implemented by the mission from the beginning.

UNIFIL confirmed that it is taking very strict precautionary measures with all its military and civilian elements inside and outside its centers, following all approved protocols, including quarantine and isolation, in line with the World Health Organization guidelines. and the Lebanese government. It also inspected the headquarters of all UNIFIL civilian personnel and applied alternative measures, including “working from home”.

It should be noted that all UNIFIL activities related to the implementation of its mandate in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701 continue and remain unaffected. The situation in the Mission’s area of ​​operations and along the Blue Line is calm and stable. UNIFIL is in contact with all relevant Lebanese authorities and with headquarters in New York.
