The Corona meter yesterday registered 1534 wounded and 7 dead, breaking a new record. With this number, the total of wounded ascends to 36 thousand 76, of which 242 are in the district “critical”. In practice, the shape of the meter has not changed for about a month, in terms of its stability above the threshold of a thousand strokes per day. On the ground, things do not bode well, especially with regard to the increase in the number of cases requiring careful attention, which yesterday was about 242 cases. And the number is likely to rise even further, according to Beirut Government Hospital Director General Firas Abyad.

This occurs at a time when, day after day, the hopes of the population, as well as the State, are lost. For people, the Corona virus has become for many of them a “joke”, in contrast to the awareness campaigns that are carried out, and the tests? Obviously evading preventive measures, with which the seizure reports did nothing. Even in localities that are subject to total closure today, the situation is no better than areas that are not subject to quarantine, where the percentage of compliance is at best 70%, according to the Ministry of Public Health. As for the state, it seems that it cannot organize another strategy, to avoid the negative economic effects of the closure. Due to this deficit, it is natural that this strategy has “conditions and prices”, according to Abyad, especially in terms of the continued high number of people infected with the virus. The most dangerous in these prices are those that appear in two main indicators: the number of patients in intensive care and the number of victims on the other hand. These two indicators, according to Abyad, are “clear evidence of the increasing spread of the epidemic.” There is an additional risk, according to Abyad, which is no less important, and that is the danger coming from outside, with the increase in arrivals recently infected with the virus. Therefore, Abyad’s call was “to reinforce measures at borders and in society, relaunch awareness campaigns, increase the number and effectiveness of surveillance and early screening, as well as increase the number of hospital beds” .
However, the Minister of Public Health, Hamad Hassan, is optimistic, indicating that “today we have not lost hope. We and the Corona virus walk together, but we will not let it precede us.” From here, and to rectify this matter, Hassan reiterated his request to private hospitals “in all Lebanese regions to confront us.”
Also in a context of optimism, Hassan announced the transfer of 4 million and 367 thousand dollars from the funds of the Ministry of Public Health in the fund “UNICEF” to the fund “Kovacs”, which is supposed to “give us 20% of the price of the expected Corona vaccine “.
