The head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, Ali Akbar Salehi, revealed that his country had begun its fourth step to abandon its nuclear commitments stipulated in the nuclear agreement concluded 5 years ago.
Salehi said Tehran would activate 1,044 centrifuges to enrich uranium at the Fordo nuclear facility, which is located underground in Qom province.
Salehi added that his country “will enrich uranium in view of its needs without being bound by the terms of the nuclear agreement, and will also store the enriched materials.”
It should be noted that Iran has reached the fourth stage of the process of gradual abandonment of nuclear obligations that it signed in the framework of the nuclear agreement concluded with world powers in 2015.
Tehran has pumped more gases into its advanced centrifuges to increase the level of uranium enrichment at the Fordo site in November 2019.
This step was met with condemnation from the United States and deep concern on the part of the majority of the international community, who called on Iran to quickly return to its obligations.
Following this move, the US government removed exemptions for foreign companies to cooperate at the Fordo nuclear site in Iran.
