Authorities in Napa and Sonoma provinces ordered residents to evacuate their homes after three new fires struck the area.
And in Napa County, the “Glass” fire has spread rapidly over at least 2,500 acres, while “it’s still out of control as of now.”
Two other fires broke out in the North Bay area, the first being the “Shady Fire” that threatens the city of Santa Rosa, which has a population of around 180,000 people, and the other is the “Boysen Fire” in the northeast of Santa Rosa. These two fires also triggered evacuation operations.
Elise Howard, a spokeswoman for the city of Santa Rosa, said: “The residents of a group of retirees in Oakmont Village have been transferred.”
St. Helena Hospital staff and patients were evacuated Sunday, “in anticipation of any potential danger, while residents throughout the city of Paradise have been notified to prepare for possible evacuations.”
The northern city of Calistoga issued “eviction notices for its 5,300 residents.”
The fires, which broke out across the western United States since last August, “have killed at least 35 people, most of them in California and Oregon.”
Since the beginning of the year, more than 8,100 fires have broken out in California, “destroying more than 3.7 million acres and last month destroying about 7,000 buildings.”
