British-Iranian national Nazin Zaghri appeared today, Sunday, in a court in Tehran, days after the end of a previous prison sentence, and for her part, Britain condemned her trial in a second case after spending years in prison.
Hajjat Karmani, a 42-year-old defense attorney for Zaghri, said she appeared in court today charged with “propaganda against the Iranian regime” due to her participation in a protest rally outside the Iranian embassy in London in 2009.
Kermani expressed hope that the charges against her client would be dropped after she served nearly 5 years of her previous prison sentence.
For his part, Richard Ratcliffe, husband of an Iranian-British citizen, confirmed that the Iranian authorities accused his wife of propaganda against the regime months ago, but she postponed her trial until the end of her sentence.
Ratcliffe said that Zaghari appeared today for a short time before a section of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, indicating that the verdict in this case could be rendered within a few days.
And it considered that the authorities revived this case as part of Iranian efforts to pressure Britain to recover the amount of $ 530 million, which is the value of a tank deal contracted by Tehran at the end of Shah Reza Pahlavi’s reign, but he did. not get it.
Authorities released Zaghari in March last year due to the Corona virus outbreak, but placed her under house arrest at her parents’ home and put an electronic bracelet on her wrist. And last week, when his sentence expired, house arrest procedures were lifted with his travel ban.

British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab described the continuation of the Zaghari trial in a second case as unacceptable and arbitrary.
In a tweet today, Raab called on the Iranian authorities to release Zaghari and return her to her family in Britain without delay.
He added that his country will continue its efforts to support his citizenship in any way possible.
Zaghari is reported to have been arrested in April 2016 as she was leaving Tehran.
She was tried for “conspiring to overthrow the Iranian regime” by cooperating with foreign institutions, and was sentenced to 5 years in prison.
