The metropolitan of Beirut and its suburbs addressed the Greek Orthodox Archbishop Elias Odeh on the anniversary of independence, saying in the Sunday sermon: “Independence is coming this year and restrictions are shackling citizens from all directions. Restore our homeland in the midst of a deep sadness, the general mourning for the stolen lives and the price of life, in addition to a pandemic that kills people. ” And a general financial, political, economic, social and moral collapse that devastates the country. Did he calm down while the facts were not revealed and the official was not held accountable? “, Indicating that our high command fought to” obtain an independence that did not congratulate the nation, because many did not realize the meaning of freedom, or freedom was not worthy of them or of independence. “
He added: “Freedom is a divine gift that no one can take from a person without their consent. Regarding independence, it is freedom from any external authority or yoke. It is the absence of subordination and freedom from all forms of direction, pressure, coercion or control. His right to manage his affairs in accordance with his free will, without affiliation, subordination or subordination to any other State, that is, he is able to exercise his political decision in isolation from the influences that surround him, “wondering : “Is this our situation today? Lebanon today is a collapsed country, bankrupt, eroded by chaos, corruption, scandals and the absence of a decision, in which politicians mourn it before the people ”.
Odeh continued: “May the anniversary of independence be an occasion for the contemplation of how to loosen the chains and turn towards the light, towards the sun of freedom, for the real launch towards liberation from all kinds of slavery.” To the President of the Republic with “sincere words, the words of a citizen and a person in charge who suffers with his people, suffers with him and dreams like him of a sovereign, free, independent, prosperous and radiant Homeland”, saying: “Mr. President, you are the father of the Lebanese and your people are calling you and they have a right over you. Lebanon has suffered for years and its conditions have deteriorated into a place from which it is difficult to return. Save what remains of your pact and take a brave step that history will remember you, “adding:” The Lebanese know you and know that your ambition was great, and they put their hopes in you, so do not disappoint your hopes. Lebanon is a trust in your neck and I have sworn to preserve it. Therefore, I ask you, on behalf of this kind and tired people, to save Lebanon. It needs your wisdom and your tenacity to take a courageous position with which you will renounce everything and those who hinder the recovery of Lebanon from its base. Your heart is bleeding like the heart of Beirut, its people and all Lebanese, but they are helpless and only you can make a bold decision. “
The sermon continued: “Our Lord Jesus Christ, whom we are preparing for his birthday, has cleansed himself, taking the image of slave and incarnate, and sacrificing himself for the salvation of his creation. So, the person responsible does not imitate his creator?” , Considering that “what is required is to transcend everything and work only for the good of Lebanon and the Lebanese. You accept that Lebanon is a hostage in the hands of internal or external parties. Its freedom, sovereignty and independence are a trust in your hands. , and you graduated from defense school and reached the highest ranks. Lebanon can only be free and today it is bound and tied. Today, Lebanon is isolated and rejected. Lebanon can only be a brilliant and creative person in the world. world, and today it is a country of poverty, hunger, unemployment and homeless people.
Odeh asked: “Where is the Lebanon of diversity, tolerance, freedom and democracy, the Lebanon of activity, vitality, prosperity and joy? Today it is disarmed, sad, dark and hopeless. Where is it? Where are the skills? Where are the youth? Where are prosperity and urbanism? Where are the visions and creativity? Where are Lebanon Michel Shiha, Fouad Chehab, Fouad Boutrosue and Ghassue? The great men of all sects? The Lebanon that the poets sang and loved by the world, Lebanon is a meeting place of civilizations and an incubator of religions, a destination for tourists and a refuge for the free, a Lebanon of justice, openness and democracy, will it recede? , will it atrophy and disappear?
He added, complementing the letter to Aoun: “The people of Lebanon loved you, do not let them down because of political, family or sectarian ties. To their conscience and their patriotism, and I know how much they love Lebanon. Implement the constitution and enforce the laws. Promote the prestige of the state by embracing responsibility and accountability. Activate regulatory bodies and raise the hands of their politicians and the judiciary. Preserve people’s livelihoods and their money. The best of the Lebanese people says. Exposing the corrupt and labeling the disruptors. The trial is a crime, conflict of interest, mutual wars of nullity, futile account balances, and the implementation of external agendas that only lead to doom. Work to dissuade them. What is the benefit of authority in the face of loss of life, dignity and homeland. Mr. President, take a rescue step for your people and your grandchildren. Accelerate the formation of a government of free women and men to take over the rescue mission. Press all parties to support you and work with dedication, fairness and sincerity so that we deserve independence and we deserve life. “
As for the president in charge of forming the government, he said: “Hurry your mission because the country is collapsing, the citizen can no longer tolerate, time is fading and history takes responsibility. Put your hand in the hand of His Excellency the President and work together to save Lebanon. We must not waste time so the homeland is not wasted. And our prayers are for all officials who work honestly and sincerely for the good of Lebanon. “
He concluded: “We also call ourselves to seek true freedom and independence, first from sin and, second, from every sinner who reigns over us with his sins and makes us his slaves, threatening us with our safety and security.”
