US media reported on Friday that Democratic candidate Joe Biden turned the tables in Georgia and Nevada, while incumbent President and Republican candidate Donald Trump strengthened his progress in Pennsylvania.
And CNN reported that Biden is ahead of Trump by 917 votes in tight-knit presidential elections that rely on very narrow margins in a handful of states, while Trump has stepped up his legal efforts to influence the vote count and launched new accusations of electoral fraud.
He added that Biden was also ahead of Trump in Nevada by 11,438 votes, while Trump strengthened his leadership in Pennsylvania with 18,229 votes.
And if Biden wins in Georgia, which is represented by 16 votes in the electoral college, then the Democratic candidate will have decided the race for the White House and become the first to get 270 votes, while the position is not yet clear in Arizona.
The margins between Trump and Biden have narrowed in 3 of the four states as the results of the vote counting centers came in as anxious Americans await clarity after a very stressful and dangerous election.
For his part, Trump made unsubstantiated accusations Thursday of tampering with electorate votes, falsely claiming his rival was trying to seize power. It was an extraordinary effort by an American president to cast doubt on the democratic process.
“This is the case when they try to steal the election,” Trump said from a stage in the White House press conference room. “They are trying to manipulate the elections.”
And the president’s remarks deepened feelings of anxiety in the United States, as Americans enter their third full day after the election, not knowing who will take over as president for the next four years.
His comments also drew a reprimand from some Republicans, especially those seeking to steer the party in a different direction in the post-Trump era.
