US President-elect Joe Biden announced Monday the formation of the all-female White House communications team, for the first time in US history.
Biden said in a statement on his transition team website: “I am proud to announce today that the White House contact team is made up entirely of women,” according to the US channel “Al-Hurra.”
He added that “these experts and qualified in the field of communication will provide diverse perspectives for their work, and will participate in the reconstruction of the country in a better way.”
And the president-elect appointed 7 women to the aforementioned positions for his team, which will be within his next administration, led by former President Barack Obama’s State Department spokesperson, Jane Sackey as spokesperson for the White House.
He also appointed his campaign spokesperson Kate Bedingfield as communications director, and senior campaign advisor, Simon Sanders, to become spokesperson for his deputy, Kamala Harris.
Former Biden spokeswoman Elizabeth Alexander, when she took over as Obama’s vice president, will manage Harris communications.
Biden-Harris’ campaign advisers, Karen John Pierre and Ashley Etienne, will serve as the deputy White House spokesperson and the vice president’s deputy communications director.
As for Billy Tobar, the former media director of Senate Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was appointed deputy director of communications and is of Hispanic origin.
