Lebanese President Michel Aoun said, at the beginning of the Supreme Defense Council session to discuss the issue of the port fire, that today’s fire may be an intentional act of sabotage or the result of technical error, ignorance or negligence, and in all cases the cause must be known as soon as possible and the perpetrators held accountable.

He added: “It is no longer acceptable for mistakes of any kind leading to such a fire, especially after the disaster caused by the first fire.”

The Lebanese president indicated that today’s work should focus on studying effective measures to ensure that what happened is not repeated.

A new fire broke out in the port of Beirut today, Thursday, to release a huge column of black smoke into the sky over the Lebanese capital, more than a month after a massive explosion destroyed the port facilities and their surroundings.

The Lebanese army said in a statement that “a fire broke out in a tire and oil warehouse in the port of Beirut, and the cause of the fire is not yet known,” calling on citizens to move away from the port’s perimeter. and evacuate the surrounding roads due to the intensification of the fire.

The “Sputnik” correspondent quoted a Lebanese civil defense source as saying that “preliminary information indicates that the fire broke out in a warehouse within the Beirut free zone that contained oils and tires,” and noted that “flammable materials are not they are dangerous”.
