Hancock said he met with London Mayor Sadiq Khan and would hold other meetings to discuss further restrictions in the capital, in the same way that he had spoken with city councils in the northeast, where action was taken in Lancashire and Wolverhampton.
When asked if working from home is an option for Londoners starting this week, the Health Minister responded, saying he was not ruling it out.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan was reported to have urged ministers to step up measures in the city, including working from home and asking bars and restaurants to close at 10pm.
A source in the municipality said the cases in London are now only two to three days late in reaching the numbers recorded in the North West and North East, as new measures have been imposed there. The source added that no further delays can be allowed.
Imposing more restrictions in London would mean a contradiction with the government’s leadership, which asked people to return to their offices after easing the closure measures, but the source revealed that tightening the screws now to help curb the spread of Corona, it may avoid the need for a full shutdown, as happened last March, which can seriously damage the economy again.
Hancock warned Britain is at a tipping point and refused to rule out a second national lockdown if people don’t follow and adhere to social distancing rules.
Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, new restrictions will be imposed on some 13.5 million people in various regions of the UK, in an attempt by the authorities to control the spread of the epidemic.
