The Beirut port fire yesterday obscured events related to the formation of the government, noting that there had been no significant public development in the past 48 hours. However, the information available to Al-Nahar indicates that the threat of President-designate Mustafa Adeeb to apologize for the expiration of the deadline given to form the government, is serious, knowing that the deadline ranged from Saturday, as some see it, and Tuesday, as some others see. According to the information, the former heads of government advised Adeeb to wait at the presentation of his government formation to avoid provoking the Shiite duo after the recent US sanctions, and it is no longer clear how long this stalemate can continue. Therefore, the term given to the president in charge of a French intervention is extended and it is advisable to open up to the opinion of the parties in the choice of names, otherwise it is possible that it occurs in the event of a confrontation that overthrows the birth of the new government.
In this context, it noted that the President of the Republic sent the Director General of Public Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, to Paris, where he met with Ambassador Bernard Emier and the team assigned to follow up on the French initiative in Lebanon and the government formation process. Yesterday afternoon, Ibrahim informed President Michel Aoun about the results of his visit to Paris, and it was officially reported that he conveyed France’s interest in following up on what was agreed during President Emmanuel Macron’s visit, especially in terms of accelerating the formation of the government, which must include specialists in their fields who do not oppose party representatives. He understood that Abraham’s visit did not produce comfortable results in light of an attempt to persuade the Shiite duo to give up the money bag, knowing that this matter is not an option for both of them.
