Syrian and Lebanese authorities confirmed this Sunday that the fires that devastated parts of the two countries in recent days have been controlled.
In Syria, fires broke out, fueled by high temperatures, on Friday in the Homs, Tartous and Latakia governorates, where at least three people were killed, according to the Health Ministry.
Many families were forced to flee the residential areas near the burning places, according to media reports.
And on Sunday, the official Syrian news agency “SANA” quoted Latakia Governor Ibrahim Khader Al-Salem as saying that “firefighting and civil defense teams, with the support of the army and community units, control all the fires in the governorate with remaining smoke points that are being attended to by the different fire fighting teams that are still working. ” On the cooling of fire places “.
“SANA” reported that all fires were controlled in Tartous, while firefighting teams succeeded in extinguishing a fire burning in a forest in the village of “near Ali” throughout the western countryside of Homs.
Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous stated that efforts are being made to reduce the damage caused by the fires and to support people who have been forced to flee their homes.
In Lebanon, more than a hundred fires have also been under control in the forests since Thursday, according to a source from the civil defense agency Agence France-Presse.
Authorities in both countries have yet to reveal the full extent of the damage caused by the fires.
In Israel, the fire brigade reported that the fires caused by the heat wave were brought under control on Friday night.
The Israeli fire service said in a statement on Saturday that “after more than 30 hours of fighting them, we have managed to control the main fires … (but) we have to remain vigilant.”
