President Najib Mikati said: “There are talks taking place tonight at the government level, otherwise President-designate Mustafa Adeeb will apologize.”
In an interview on MTV Friday night, Mikati said: “We respect the opinion of Prime Minister Hariri, but we do not agree with him on the method, and the president-designate does not want to repeat the experience of previous governments.”
He noted that “assigning a ministry to a sect means that we wrap the rope around the neck of the Lebanese and create more and more new heresies, which constitute some obstacles on the political path.”
In response to a question on whether the previous heads of government are the ones who make up the government, he said: “If the intervention consists of appointing a person like Ambassador Dr. Mustafa Adib to take over as Prime Minister, yes, and if The intervention was carried out by visiting Dr. Mustafa as part of the usual protocol visits. The heads of government can, by assigning them, yes, there is interference. If the intervention was made through binding parliamentary consultations, and Dr. Mustafa received it by the central parliamentary bloc to explore his perception in the new government, the answer is also yes.
And if our planned intervention was to contact him and give him all the support and assistance in his mission to form a government identical to the “mission” government that led the French initiative, then yes too. But if the intention is for the interference to occur by imposing the names of ministers, interfering in portfolio allocation, or adhering to a specific portfolio, or interfering in determining the size of government, or any other similar matter, then the answer it is certainly not. If what is meant is that the intervention is carried out by undermining or diminishing the powers of the sitting prime minister by controlling the prime minister-designate and limiting his role, then of course it is not, and how does it happen, and we are in between the early advocates of preserving the prime minister’s constitutional powers and the powers that the constitution has given him.
He added: “Adeeb has a large number of resumes, so choose the best one, because it came from being in charge of a specialized team outside the political quota system and not copying from previous governments, and that is what we encourage you. to do”.
President Mikati stated that “Hezbollah is a partner in the homeland, but we do not want the surplus of power that exists on the Lebanese domestic scene to appear.” Regarding what former MP Walid Jumblatt said that the former prime ministers are the “golf club”, Mikati said: “I thank Walid for his words because, in fact, we have the honor of being a golf club player, because is a high level game, and the rules and values on which this game is based are completely identical. And the values and rules on which the club of heads of government is based: such as honest competition, respect and compliance with laws, wise leadership, and the ability to achieve unforeseen goals at great distances. “
