The information is doubtful about the existence of a tendency in some private hospitals to price their hospital bills in dollars on the basis of 4,000 pounds, as of the beginning of next October.
The head of the Private Hospitals Union, Suleiman Haroun, explained to Al-Akhbar that the fee for accommodation in hospital rooms, laboratory tests, X-rays, etc. has not changed, and we are still delivering the invoices to the guarantor according to the rates set in Lebanese pounds.
He pointed out that the variable cost is related to the medical devices and equipment that the patient needs (rays, prostheses, etc.), which are priced in dollars.
Haroun explained that the importation of this equipment “is subsidized by the Bank of Lebanon by 85%, and 15% remains according to the market price, and the additional cost incurred by the patient is the difference in the price of dollar market “.
For their part, the sources of the insurance companies explained that they have not yet made a decision in this regard, while the sources of the Social Security Fund denied that they had notified such a decision from any of the hospitals, noting that the information indicates that the difference Among the official price adopted for the insurance is (1515 pounds per dollar). The dollar is priced at 4000 pounds, if approved, hospitals will charge patients and not guarantors.
