Lebanese President Michel Aoun said on Saturday that “our reality today is not promising, but the recognition of reality does not mean surrendering to it”, noting that “our country today is trapped in a system of political, financial and administrative corruption that is it has become a philosophy that has theorists who defend it ”.

Aoun said, during a speech on the occasion of Independence Day, that Lebanon is “a prisoner of a rentier economy that killed its production and turned it into a mortgage for creditors”, adding that “there is no emergence of a state capable of the light of corruption and the beginning of the imposition of criminal financial audits. “

Aoun also clarified that “there is no real independence for a country whose economy is chained abroad, and the institutions must be freed from the influence of politicians and authorities”, asking “to accelerate without rushing to investigate the crime of the explosion of the port of Beirut “.

He also stressed “the need to affirm Lebanon’s adherence to its full sovereign borders.”

In his speech, the Lebanese president affirmed “the need to initiate a national dialogue to put aside all differences and propose a unified position that strengthens Lebanon so that it is not a victim of great understandings.”

Aoun described the withdrawal of the two companies, which are in charge of the forensic financial audit of BDL accounts, a “setback” because it is “the beginning of any reform.”

Aoun continued: “The time has come to free the government formation process from disputes, harassment and cover-up of bailout initiatives,” noting that “it will not back down on the issue of relaunching criminal financial auditing.”

As for the normalization of some Arab countries with “Israel,” Aoun commented, “I mean, implicitly giving up Jerusalem.”

It is noteworthy that the head of the interim government in Lebanon, Hassan Diab, said yesterday that “the wall of corruption is too thick and too high for reform.”

In his tweet on Twitter, Diab explained: “Today they thwarted criminal scrutiny and corruption won a new round,” adding: “We will keep trying until we tear down this wall that confiscates Lebanese hopes of a state that triumphs over corruption. “.

The company “Álvarez” and “Marsal” put an end to the agreement signed with the Ministry of Finance for the forensic accounting audit, through a letter sent on Friday to the Minister of Finance of the interim government, Ghazi Wazni.

On September 9, the Ministry of Finance officially announced the launch of the first phase of the criminal audit of “Alvarez” and “Marsal” of the accounts of Banque du Liban. However, this task reached a dead end after the Banque du Liban invoked bank secrecy and the Cash and Credit Law to refuse to comply with the company’s requests despite the three-month extension of the deadline on day five of this month.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah Undersecretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem said the cited justifications for failing the criminal investigation into the Banque du Liban’s financial situation were “unacceptable.”

Sheikh Qassem pointed out that “the continued blindness to the reality of the bank will lead to further deterioration,” adding: “We insist on the need and priority of criminal investigation, and it is not correct to accept faults and failures.”
