The Associated Press, citing officials, reported that an explosion appeared to have occurred in a maintenance building at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Connecticut, killing two people on Friday and the loss of a third.

Connecticut state police said in a statement Friday that authorities were investigating a report of an explosion at a West Haven veterans medical center.

Police added on “Twitter” that investigators from the fire and explosives unit had come to the scene to help local firefighters.

“We received a report this morning of an explosion on the West Haven campus of Connecticut’s health care system, resulting in the death of two people in a non-sick care area,” said Robert Wilkie, Secretary of Veterans Affairs at a statement.
