On Friday, the Emirati Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, announced that he had received a vaccine against the Corona virus, without specifying the origin of this vaccine.

Abdullah bin Zayed tweeted on his Twitter account, writing: “Corona vaccination is our way of getting back to normal life.”

The UAE’s foreign minister did not disclose the details or origin of the vaccine it received, but the country agreed in the middle of last month to use an emergency Chinese vaccine against Corona.

Last July, the United Arab Emirates began the third phase of the Corona vaccine trial, which was developed by the Chinese state pharmaceutical company Sinofam, but has yet to be completed.

The Emirates National Emergency Disaster and Crisis Management Authority stated at the time that “authorities authorized the emergency use of the vaccine after evaluating it based on specific criteria and after testing it on 31,000 volunteers.”

He added that the vaccine will be available to “members of the first line of defense to provide all means of security to these heroes and protect them from any danger.”

The authority indicated that “it detected minor symptoms and did not register serious side effects”, and said that “the vaccine was tested in a thousand volunteers who suffered from chronic diseases and there were no complications.”

Sinofam got approval to test the vaccine in late July. A statement from the Abu Dhabi government in July stated that “the experimental vaccine has passed the first and second stages of clinical trials after all volunteers produced antibodies after two doses in 28 days.”

And “the United Arab Emirates has so far registered more than 111,000 cases of the virus, while the number of people who died as a result of the disease has reached 452.”
